Four Letter Dot Com Domain Names
Here’s the biggest sale I have seen so far for a bulk group of llll dot coms: 4200 of them at eBay!
I’ve seen some people steal some domains at Sedo recently andhave picked up a few myself. If you haven’t tried the Sedo.com marketplace check out the featuredauctions section. There’s been an increasing number of LLLL.coms and while many to sell for good amounts, some sneak by most buyers and are snatched at an excellent value.
I like both buying and selling at sedo. The system just seems to work safely. They use there own escrow way of completing the sale that is good for both the buyer and seller. Many times I worry I might get ripped off at eBay, although it hasn’t happened yet.
This auction just started and so far the opening bid is only at $60! That is low for a quality LLLL.com such as this.
Qahh.com has three premium letters and is pronouncable.
Here’s the auction:
Premium domain name Qeir.com is currently at auction at Sedo.com. You can find the auction at this link:
The last bid I saw was just $60, but I expect that bid to rise considerably. This is a four figure at least domain sale. Or should be anyways.
I saw a blog post by a member of dnforum/namepros who did a survey of 100 random LLLL.coms and found out 24 were websites. Here’s his blog post:
So, i thought i would do similar test and see what results I come up with. I only took 33 LLLL.coms randomly and here is what I found:
33% were developed websites. Most of the rest were parked domains or forwarded domains.
Here’s the list I chose. By the way, my method was fairly unscientific: I just took a dictionary, a pencil, closed my eyes and put the pencil down on the pages. Where the pencil landed was the letter.

I have seen this mentioned at some domain forums a few times. There are just too many LLLL.coms and this will keep prices from increasing in the long term. Part of the reasoning is that there just aren’t enough end users for all the domains. Another reasoning is that some of the combinations will never find real end users. I’ll address the second part of this in another post because there is evidence that these domains are finding plenty of end users no matter the quality of the domains.
Regarding the shear numbers of these LLLL.coms lets look at this in a relative way:
There are over 450,000 LLLL.coms. I probably should have the exact number memorized but don’t. That sounds like a huge number. However if we consider how many websites are online now you may not think the number is that high.
How many websites are currently online? Well, nobody knows the exact number but there was one company last year who made an estimate. Netcraft is a company that uses spiders to get data for Microsoft. In Feb of 07 they estimated there were over 108 million websites!
108 MILLION!!
This is how the growth of websites has looked in the past 12 years or so:
August of 2005 = 18,000 websites
May 2004 = 50 million
Oct 2006 = 100 million
Feb 2007 = 108 million ( that’s 8 million in just 4 months! )
OK, now how do you feel about 450,000 domains? The number of websites increases by about half a million about every week it seems. If not more.
The arguement that there are too many LLLL.coms doesn’t really hold water.
These domains are like having property in a prime neighboorhood in San Francisco or New York.
The popularity of Barack Obama has now reached eBay in the form of domain names. Several auctions in recent weeks have popped up and the latest, perhaps the most substantial, is for a recently coined word Obamacized. Obamasized.com has a starting bid of $100 and no reserve. The auction ends next Wednesday afternoon.
